Isuzu UTE Australia has unveiled the 2025 MU-X, bringing a host of refinements aimed at making this SUV even more capable for towing, offroad adventures and daily use.

With upgraded suspension, improved safety features and the introduction of the premium X-TERRAIN variant, the latest MU-X is set to meet the demands of Australian drivers.

New X-TERRAIN flagship variant for 2025

The 2025 Isuzu MU-X range introduces the new X-TERRAIN, a bold, high-spec model featuring a more aggressive exterior and a premium interior with red-accented leather seats. Having tested multiple X-TERRAIN D-MAXs over the years, we can say the black interior is a welcome addition to the MU-X range.

The X-TERRAIN also features an updated digital multi-information display (MID) and a 9in infotainment screen with wireless smartphone connectivity. It builds on the LS-T 4x4 with additional styling and feature enhancements.

Towing-focused enhancements

Towing practicality has been improved with an upgraded tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), now displaying real-time pressure and temperature to help drivers maintain optimal performance under load. A 360-degree surround view monitor, available on LS-T and X-TERRAIN models, simplifies trailer hitching and tight-spot manoeuvring.

The MU-X now features an enhanced digital reversing camera with a built-in hitch guide for easier alignment with caravans and trailers. The Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC) has also been refined to incorporate traffic sign recognition, enhancing safety and offering smoother speed adjustments on long drives.

Advanced driver assistance and safety upgrades

The 2025 MU-X benefits from a significantly updated Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). The new ‘Gen4’ stereo camera provides a wider field of view and improved object detection, enhancing safety in a variety of driving conditions.

New additions include Rear Cross Traffic Brake (RCTB) — which can automatically engage the brakes when reversing to prevent collisions — and Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), designed to maintain speed and lane position in slow-moving traffic. Lane Keep Assist (LKA) has been refined for smoother steering inputs, while the updated digital reversing camera now includes a hydrophobic coating to improve visibility in poor weather conditions.

Suspension and handling improvements

The MU-X’s suspension system has been reworked with larger dampers and revised shock absorbers, enhancing ride comfort and stability — especially when towing. Locally tested to handle Australia’s diverse road conditions, the improvements provide better control on highways and unsealed roads.

A rear differential lock, standard on 4x4 models, improves traction in challenging conditions, while the recalibrated Rough Terrain Mode optimises wheel slip to maintain stability when towing or driving on uneven surfaces.

Engine and towing capacity

The MU-X continues to offer two diesel engine options: a smaller 1.9-litre engine (110kW/350Nm) for efficiency and a 3.0-litre engine (140kW/450Nm) for those requiring more power. Both engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, available in 4x2 or 4x4.

The 3L 4x4 remains the preferred choice for towing, with a 3500kg braked towing capacity.

Interior and infotainment updates

Inside, the MU-X sees several functional upgrades. A 9.0-inch infotainment system (available in LS-U, LS-T and X-TERRAIN) now includes an inclinometer and terrain command controls for offroad driving. Responding to customer feedback, Isuzu has also reintroduced a physical volume knob for easier audio adjustments.

Offroad capabilities for remote travel

For those heading off the beaten track, the new MU-X offers solid offroad credentials. With up to 235mm of ground clearance, an 800mm wading depth and approach and departure angles designed for uneven terrain, it remains a capable option for remote touring. The vehicle’s electronic traction control and offroad driving aids ensure stability and control when towing in rough conditions.

Pricing and availability

The 2025 Isuzu MU-X is available in Australian dealerships as of 1 March 2025, with prices starting at $46,990 drive-away for the entry-level LS-M 4x2. The top-spec X-TERRAIN 3L is priced at $73,990. Isuzu continues to offer a six-year/150,000km warranty and five years of capped-price servicing. (Please note, prices may vary between states and territories.)

With smarter towing technology, refined suspension and the addition of the X-TERRAIN model, the 2025 MU-X strengthens its position as a capable and reliable large SUV for tow vehicle buyers.
