Mazda has just revealed the changes to its latest model, the 2025 Mazda BT-50, which will feature a facelift, safety upgrades and plenty of new tech.
The Mazda BT-50 dual cab ute was first launched back in 2020, and this fourth update is spec’d to be the biggest yet.
Strip back all the styling and the Mazda BT-50 and the Isuzu D-MAX are twins, and this new update is Mazda’s version of the design and tech upgrades the D-MAX received this year. Given the D-MAX retained the same excellent two-diesel 4JJ engine and Aisin six-speed gearboxes in the top-spec models, it’s expected that the 2025 BT-50 will do the same.
Full Australian pricing and specs will be revealed in early 2025, ahead of the launch in the first quarter of the new year.
So, what is coming in the new upgrade?
Exterior updates
Exterior changes will include exclusive new alloy wheels, new LED headlamps, radiator grille and bumper — the last of which features an ‘air curtain’ designed to improve aerodynamic efficiency and fuel efficiency. Down the back, the tailgate will incorporate a distinctive ridged design along the bottom edge, the new LED tail-lamps and a bigger Mazda logo.
Three new colours have been added Mazda’s range, including the new hero colour Red Earth Metallic, and Geode White Pearl and Sailing Blue Metallic.
New look and tech inside
The inside has had a redesign as well, and just like the latest D-MAX the 2025 BT-50 has a new infotainment system which now features touch switches below the display and measures up to 9in depending on the grade. There’s also a customisable 7in multi-information display (MID) for the driver, USB-C sockets throughout and wireless Android Auto is joining the previously included wireless Apple CarPlay functionality.
The centre display will also now show information previously contained to the driver’s display/MID, including real-time vehicle steering and tilt angles, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) status, drive mode/diff lock status and Rough Terrain Mode.
There have also been some minor updates to the trims, with the doors, console lid and mid-dashboard changing from brown to black leather (depending on the BT-50 grade). And flagship models will have the option of a leather seat trim finished in black and terracotta Maztex with synthetic suede and the BT-50 moniker stitched into the front seat headrests.
Safety first
Safety feature upgrades include new front stereo cameras that double the vehicle’s field of view, Traffic Jam Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Brake (RCTB) and Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control — a feature that uses the upgraded Traffic Sign Recognition system to set the vehicle’s speed. The digital rear camera has been enhanced with a hydrophobic coating to keep it cleaner and the addition of dynamic guidelines which appear on the touchscreen display.
The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system now includes motorcycle and pedestrian detection at intersections, and the Emergency Lane Keeping feature can detect road edges without line markings.
Further information coming in early 2025
Mazda has worked with the Australian Mazda team and trusted supplier partners to develop a new range of Mazda Genuine Accessories specifically for Aussie conditions, which will be launched alongside the 2025 BT-50.
“Formatting an integral part of our Mazda model range here in Australia, the BT-50 has set the tone as a versatile, ready-for-anything vehicle that suits a variety of customer needs whether it’s a trusty work companion or an enabler for life’s passions,” said Vinesh Bhindi, managing director of Mazda Australia. “For 2025, this impactful new design has matured our much-loved ute to be an even more compelling choice regardless of the task in hand.”
More information will be revealed in the coming months — head to the Mazda website to find out more.
