We check out the Daymo Adventure-Q Kettle BBQ, a compact and versatile cooker that can fry, roast, grill, slow-cook and even bake on your next camping trip.
Founded by Lyn and Damian ‘Daymo’ Smith in 2022, Daymo Pty Ltd is a family business making innovative outdoor and camping gear.
Its Adventure-Q kettle barbecue is a versatile, portable outdoor cooker with multiple personalities. Based around the idea of a hooded barbecue kettle, it can fry, roast, grill, boil, steam, bake, casserole and slow-cook.
The main component is a 22cm cast-aluminium pan with a ribbed, bonded stainless-steel base coated in a premium German non-stick material. The Adventure-Q Original Pack includes a domed lid with adjustable vents, a stainless-steel steamer rack and a storage bar.
You can choose an upgraded kit — the Adventure-Q Ultimate Pack — which includes a tempered glass casserole lid for improved visibility when cooking, silicone lift handles, silicone tongs and a spatula, as well as a heavy-duty canvas bag to make carrying it all easier.
Adding to the Adventure-Q’s versatility, heating options include gas and electric burners, induction cooktops, wood fires and ovens.

Testing the Daymo Adventure-Q Kettle BBQ
Daymo suggests that the cooker makes the perfect steak by heating the pan first, then cooking the steak with the lid on to lock in the heat. I tried that with a cut of fillet and have to agree it was pretty good.
Heather used the Adventure-Q to cook a fish curry, using an induction cooktop for heat and the glass casserole lid for visibility and simmering, and it too was delicious and perfectly cooked.
Lastly, we challenged the Adventure-Q by cooking some sourdough bread, where the secret is to get the bread to rise quickly. Again, the Adventure-Q came through and delivered a nice crusty loaf.
Adventure-Q BBQ: Could it replace your old cooking gear?
In his promotional material, Daymo Smith suggests you can replace most of your cooking gear with the Daymo Adventure-Q Kettle BBQ. We haven’t quite done that yet, but I can see at least a few old pots being left behind on our next trip.
The Adventure-Q Original Pack is $209, and the Ultimate Pack is $299. Both are available on the Daymo website.
