New Premium Silverado Coming to Australian Shores - Caravan World Australia

GM Specialty Vehicles have announced that the new Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty LTZ Premium will begin local righthand drive production in November this year.

The HD model will be the biggest Silverado offered by GMSV, and will come with a massive 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V-8 engine. That will combine with an all-new 10-speed transmission, to deliver one of GM’s toughest drivetrain/powertrain combinations to date.

GMSV Director Joanne Stogiannis said, “The HD is a strong and capable V8-diesel truck and complements the existing models in the lineup, but don’t let its rugged looks deceive you as it’s loaded with safety features and technology-related attributes.”

Of course, the major concerns for RV owners will be how much it can tow, and how much it will set you back. Full technical specifications will be confirmed after final certification is completed, which is anticipated soon, but our editorial team understands that it will likely come with a 4500kg max braked tow capacity and over a tonne of payload. The recommended retail price of the MY21 Silverado HD LTZ Premium is to be $144,990. This will includes GST but is not statutory charges and on-road costs like dealer-delivery fees.

By way of comparison, the range-topping 300 Series LandCruiser Sahara ZX tops out at $138,790 before on-road costs. That LandCruiser can tow up to 3500kg and is rumoured to have a payload between 735–825kg.

An Advanced Towing Package on the MY21 Silverado HD LTZ Premium will include Rear vision camera Hitch Guidance, Hitch View, Integrated Trailer Brake Controller and power extendable external mirrors.

Ride and handling is enhanced by a Z71 Off-Road Package, consisting of Off-Road suspension with Rancho™ twin tube shocks, Hill Descent Control and Skid plates.

On the inside plenty of thought has been put into making the cabin a relaxing and inviting environment. For the driver, there is a heated leather steering wheel with mounted controls, a Multi-Colour 15" Diagonal Head-Up Display plus an 8” diagonal colour driver information centre. Both driver and front passenger enjoy heated and ventilated leather seats, while dual-zone automatic climate control and a power sunroof complete the interior.

The HD will come standard with the ‘Technology & Safety Pack 2’, consisting of a suite of active safety features including Front and Rear Park Assist, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, IntelliBeam automatic headlamp control, Following Distance Indicator, Safety Alert Seat and Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control.
