Check Out Discovery Parks in South Australia This Summer

Check Out Discovery Parks in South Australia This Summer - Caravan World Australia

Summer brings fun, sun, and plenty of warm-weather activities, and Discovery Parks has three South Australian parks that you should explore this year: Barossa Valley, Lake Bonney, and Robe.

Discovery Parks was founded in 2004 and has since become one of Australia’s largest networks of owned and operated tourist parks, all with the aim to deliver the best possible experience for every visitor that passes into its grounds. With summer truly upon us, it’s important to start planning what kind of holiday adventures you want to enjoy – and then start booking.

The Discovery Parks destinations at Barossa Valley, Lake Bonney, and Robe each offer a different, unique environment and summer adventure to delve into, from the rolling hills and wineries of Barossa Valley to the family-friendly shores of Lake Bonney, or the picture-perfect beach holiday at Robe. But no matter their visual appearances, each one is the perfect location to visit this summer.

Summer activities

Barossa Valley, Lake Bonney, and Robe are all designed to delight visitors, particularly families, during the summer months. Each park offers a range of amenities that will delight visitors of all ages and make your stay a breeze.

At the Barossa Valley park, sit back and relax with a bouncing pillow, swimming pool, waterpark, kids’ activities, and playground.

When you're not out enjoying the lake itself, Lake Bonney's park has plenty to keep you and the kids busy with a bouncing pillow, swimming pool, waterpark, kids’ activities, playground, water trampoline, and pump track.

The Robe park does not disappoint, with a bouncing pillow, indoor heated pool, kids’ activities, adventure playground, games room, and pedal cart hire.

During the school holidays, Discovery Parks organises plenty of additional kids' activities to keep the young ones entertained.

Permanent and unique attractions are:

  • Barossa Valley’s Movie Nights every Friday or Saturday, and ‘Where’s Barry’ kids’ activity every Saturday
  • Robe hosts a pancake breakfast every Saturday morning

But families aren’t the only group that Discovery Parks takes care of, and the regions are just as attractive to couples and solo travellers of all ages. Barossa Valley is an idyllic location for all wine lovers. Lake Bonney will keep you active from dawn to dusk, while Robe is a peaceful coastal town, and particularly popular for couples of all ages if you are after a quiet, beach getaway.

Local attractions

The perks of setting up camp in any of these three locations extend beyond the bounds of the beautiful parks themselves. The different landscapes, environments, and attractions aid in creating three different summer holidays. Think of this as a choose your own adventure.

Some top local attractions to check out are:

  • Barossa Valley: Explore the region's renowned list of wineries, including (but not limited to) Langmeil Winery, St Hallett Wines and Grant Burge Wines), or stop in at Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop for a tasty morsel of new flavour. View the rolling Barossa Valley hills with Balloon Adventures or check out the impressive 110-year-old Whispering Wall at Barossa Reservoir, just outside Williamstown.
  • Lake Bonney: Enjoy water sports such as stand-up paddle boarding, water skiing, knee boarding and more, or kickstart the adrenaline with the Monash Adventure Park or Loveday 4x4 Adventures. Keep an eye out for the Barmera Main Street Markets, or head over to the Banrock Wine and Wetlands Centre or Napper’s Ruins.
  • Robe: Wander white sandy beaches at Beachport Conservation Park or appreciate the region’s natural flora and fauna at the Naracoorte Caves National Park, The Blue Lake, and Mount Gambier. Tickle your tastebuds at the Coonawarra and Mount Benson wine regions. Visit Mount Gambier Visitor Centre (formerly Lady Nelson Visitor Centre) to learn more about the attractions of South Australia.

Accommodation

Discovery Parks Barossa Valley, Lake Bonney, and Robe accept caravans, camper trailers, and tents on a selection of powered/unpowered and ensuite sites. For those seeking to add a little bit of luxe to their holiday, all three parks offer deluxe cabins. Robe and Lake Bonney accommodation offer stunning views, with the latter offering views of the lake that gives this park its name. Barossa Valley, meanwhile, offers glamping experiences in addition to its deluxe cabin accommodation.

All visitors will grow accustomed to consistent quality accommodation among the best destinations. Discovery Parks are owned and operated from the head office in Adelaide, which goes a long way to ensure visitors can always expect a vastly enjoyable stay when visiting their favourite Discovery Parks' destinations – or checking out a new one this summer!
