Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Electric Brake Controller

Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Electric Brake Controller - Caravan World Australia

“A quick look online suggests plenty of users install their own”

Hook up your trailer, start driving straight and it self-calibrates as you brake

We have been around the Tow Pro Elite for a while now, it's fitted from the factory to our Isuzu MU-X long-term loan car and it turns out it's fitted to most new 4WDs as the factory or dealer-installed option.

The Elite is a big step up on older brake controllers in that it has the ability to brake proportionally to the tow car. In super simple terms, it measures the rate of braking in the car and applies the trailer's brake to the same level. Super clever stuff made able through sophisticated sensors in the main unit. For the traditionalist, there is a manual function and, of course, an override which comes in handy when trailers start to sway or when heading down steep hills.

One of the reasons it is so popular is how compact it is and its ease to install at the dealership. REDARC sells harnesses that make the Elite almost ‘plug and play’ for most modern SUVs and utes and a quick look online suggests plenty of users install their own.

Using the unit is simple. Hook up your trailer, start driving straight and it self-calibrates as you brake indicating it is operational by a colour change from blinking green/blue to solid blue, which we noticed happened much quicker than the ‘up to 20’ brake engagements REDARC says online.

The Tow Pro Elite will also work with Dexter Sway Control and AL-KO ESC, which is a big benefit, as well as with electro-hydraulic brake actuators such as AL-KO IQ7 and 12V or 24V systems.
