With caravans getting bigger and heavier, it’s important to make sure your towing setup remains safe. To help with that, Lovells Automotive Systems has launched a significant upgrade for the popular Ford Ranger, boosting its gross vehicle mass (GVM) to 4000kg.

This new Lovells upgrade is now available across the full range of 4x4 Ford Ranger models, including the 2L bi-turbo, inline-four and 3L V6 turbo diesel variants. The move follows the company’s recent introduction of a four-tonne Brake Towing Capacity (BTC) upgrade for the Ford Ranger V6 turbo diesel models.

Designed to improve the Ranger’s load-carrying capacity, the Lovells GVM upgrade kit provides an additional 720kg of payload. This enhancement makes the Ranger more suited to a variety of demanding roles, from trades and emergency services to leisure and recreational uses, where extra load-bearing capacity is essential.

The upgrade includes eight-way adjustable remote reservoir shock absorbers, designed and engineered locally to maintain the vehicle’s ride comfort even with the increased weight. Additionally, optional uprated upper control arms are available to complement the upgrade for both drivetrain variants.

Mike Davison, managing director of Lovells Automotive Systems, commented on the new offering: “Our four-tonne GVM upgrades are specifically engineered for local conditions to improve the safety and practicality of the Ford Ranger. Whether it’s for work equipment or family adventure gear, this upgrade ensures that users can trust their vehicles to carry heavy loads with ease and confidence.”

Ensuring safety and compliance

With an increasing number of vehicles on the road being overloaded or improperly loaded, safety remains a top concern for drivers, particularly when towing. For those who need extra weight-carrying capability, a GVM upgrade can not only enhances the vehicle’s carrying capacity but also helps ensure compliance with legal limits.

The Lovells 4000kg GVM kit upgrade has been rigorously tested to meet Australian Government standards, ensuring compliance with both federal (pre-registration) and state (post-registration) regulations, offering peace of mind for owners concerned about overloading and the potential consequences of non-compliance.
