KGM Australia has launched its first fully electric ute — the Musso EV — giving Aussie buyers another option to join the electric trend.
It’s built off the current Musso platform, but with a new electric powertrain and a refreshed design that leans into the brand’s tougher, more modern visual direction.
But is it suitable for towing a full-size caravan? In most cases, no. But for those towing lightweight trailers, pods or campers — or are simply intrigued by the EV offerings on the Aussie market — the new Musso EV is placed as one of the more affordable options compared to other all-electric utes available.
Tough looks, modern feel
Up front, the Musso EV wears a more streamlined grille and cleaner panel lines, with LED lighting all around. The charging point is neatly hidden in the nose for easy access at public chargers.
KGM says the design keeps the practical proportions of a working ute while nudging the styling forward, especially around the headlights, front bumper and the rear corner steps integrated into the tub for easier access.

Cabin comfort
Inside, the Musso EV takes a noticeable step up in tech and layout. A pair of 12.3in screens handle the instrument cluster and infotainment, running KGM’s Athena 2.0 system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a wireless phone charger.
The front seats offer heating, cooling and electric adjustment, while passengers in the back get a 60/40 split seat that slides and reclines — a feature still rare in this segment. There’s a mix of leather-look and soft-touch trim, plus ambient lighting.

Load space and practical features
KGM has leaned into the work-ready side of the Musso EV, keeping its full-sized ute tub with eight tie-down hooks and a durable moulded liner.
Self-levelling rear suspension helps maintain ride height under load, whether towing or carrying gear. The tub also gets lighting for after-dark setup at camp or the worksite.

Electric powertrain
The Musso EV uses an 80.6kWh lithium iron phosphate (LiFeP04) battery, paired with a single motor in the 2WD model or dual motors in the AWD.
- 2WD: 152kW / 339Nm
- AWD: 266kW / 630Nm combined
According to KGM’s estimates, range sits at up to 420km for the 2WD and around 380km for the AWD.
DC charging at up to 300kW can take the battery from 20 to 80 per cent in about half an hour. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) also comes standard, meaning you can power tools, fridges or camping gear straight from the ute.
Towing and touring considerations
But for those who tow, the key figure to keep in mind is the 1800kg braked towing capacity. This is on the lower end for a dual cab ute, with 3500kg being the benchmark.
For caravanners, this means the Musso EV will likely be out of the running, but it’s worth noting that it is 800kg more than the LDV eT60 electric ute. If you’re towing a pod, teardrop or camper, the new Musso EV may be suitable, but always check your weights and don’t forget to factor in water, gear and passengers.
The payload — 905kg for the 2WD and 805kg for the AWD —remains competitive for a vehicle of its size, supported by self-levelling rear suspension designed to maintain ride height under load.
With a lighter structure and modest ground clearance of 181.4mm (7.1in), it’s a setup likely aimed at light-duty towing and mixed commuting/touring, rather than heavy outback hauls.

Safety tech covers eight airbags, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Trailer Stability Assist, plus front and rear parking sensors and a full electronic stability suite.
The Musso EV will be available in a maximum of six colours: Grand White, Space Black, Blazing Gold, Marble Grey, Ultra Marine and Amazonia Green. However, the 2WD Black Edge will only be available in Grand White and Space Black.
Pricing and market position
The KGM Musso EV is already available in selected KGM Dealerships, with sales available now.
It comes with a seven-year unlimited kilometre warranty, and the high-voltage battery is backed by a 10-year unlimited kilometre warranty.
The announced recommended drive-away pricing is $60,000 for the 2WD, $62,000 for the 2WD Black Edge and $64,000 for the AWD, landing below other EV competitors on the Aussie market, including the LDV eT60, one of its direct competitors, as well as the more beefed-up options like the Toyota HiLux Hybrid and Ford Ranger PHEV.
The brand is angling it as a practical EV ute rather than a premium tech showcase — something that could appeal to drivers wanting to electrify their towing and touring without the top-shelf price tag.
