Editor John Ford tested the Zorali backpack and discovered it is functional as well as really cool …
When Zorali sent me an Escapade Backpack to try, it looked pretty stylish and seemed a sensible size for a day pack or general use when travelling. Only a week later, we were in the local theatre for the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown when the Timothee Chalamet character stepped off the mythical freight train in New York sporting a 60s-era backpack that looked remarkably like the Escapade. Bob’s my hero, the original vagabond, so the Zorali backpack’s cool factor jumped to a 10.
Zorali — meaning fearless and full of life — is an Australian company based in Coolum Beach, Qld, established seven years ago. It is supported by gatherings and events within a global community of Zorelian outdoorists, as they like to call themselves. The product range includes clothing, tents, sleeping bags and hiking gear, much of which is recycled and all of which is backed by tree-planting programs worldwide.
The Escapade backpack is made from durable 1000 denier Oxford Nylon and has 30L of internal storage in two compartments. External pockets hold water bottles or a small tripod, and a padded zippered section for computers up to 15 inches. Two zippered compartments give quick access to important smaller items, and there’s a clip to keep keys safe. The backpack looks well-constructed with quality stitching and heavy-duty zippers and buckles.

Adjustable padded shoulder straps, a chest clip and a detachable waist strap allow versatile fitting and comfortable everyday use for walking around town or on a day hike or more strenuous adventure.
The Zorali Escapade Backpack is extremely comfortable, and the straps make it secure when bushwalking. It’s small enough to fit airline lockers and large enough for a weekend’s change of clothes and necessities.
Weighing 880g and measuring 48cm x 28cm x 21cm, the Escapade sells for $170 and is available in six colours, including the Kakadu Khaki pictured here. It comes with a lifetime warranty.
Head to the Zorali website for further information.
