Projecta’s new Intelli-Grid 48V power management system offers faster charging, more efficient energy use and simple touchscreen control for caravan and motorhome travellers.

Projecta has launched its new Intelli-Grid 48V power management system (IG4-48VK), first showing it off at the Victorian Caravan and Camping Supershow late last month. The system is aimed at meeting the growing power demands of modern caravanners and RV travellers, especially those who spend extended periods off-grid.

The 48V system combines a powerful 4kW inverter/charger (with 8kW surge capacity for two seconds), a customisable 18-channel master module and a touchscreen interface to make monitoring and controlling your power straightforward. While it uses a 48V input, the module converts 48V input down to 12V for your usual caravan appliances, meaning you can keep everything from lights and outlets to heavier equipment like air-conditioners and air fryers running efficiently. The master module supports a wide range of load types, including heavy loads, standard circuits, lighting and dimming applications.

Compared with 12V systems, the Projecta 48V setup is lighter, more compact and less prone to energy loss, which translates into higher efficiency and the ability to run more appliances simultaneously. For instance, powering a 48V air conditioner can be up to 10 per cent more efficient than with a standard 12V system, freeing up enough energy to run a kettle, toaster or coffee machine at the same time.

What this means for caravan and motorhome users

For travellers, the advantages are obvious. The system’s compact design and lighter weight help save interior space and payload capacity (which is always in high demand), and it’s also designed to allow for a chassis-mounted battery, further freeing up room inside the van.

Fast charging is another highlight. When connected to mains power, a 5kW battery can be charged from flat to full in around 1.5–2 hours, which is handy for travellers who want to top up quickly before heading off-grid. The system also supports solar panels of up to 60VDC, further enhancing self-sufficiency, and batteries can be paralleled, giving flexibility for larger setups or future upgrades.

Operating the system is simple, thanks to either a 7in or 10in colour touchscreen. The menus are intuitive, offering real-time monitoring of energy use, control over systems and insights into battery status and load management. Bluetooth® connectivity allows the touchscreen functions to be mirrored on the Projecta smartphone app, so monitoring and adjustments can be made even when you’re away from the caravan.

Flexible and configurable

Projecta has designed the 48V system with flexibility in mind, for both caravan owners and manufacturers. The modular setup, lighter cabling and WAGO connectors make installation easier and cleaner, while the centralised load control helps organise wiring layouts.

The 18-channel master module can handle a wide range of loads — standard circuits, heavy appliances, lighting, dimming and more. Each output channel can be individually fused, allowing the system to be tailored to the specific needs of the caravan. Beyond electrical loads, the module can provide information from up to four water tank sensors, tyre pressure monitoring, gas level monitoring and caravan levelling systems.

This flexibility means that travellers can choose the number of batteries and touchscreen size that suits their lifestyle, while manufacturers can customise system layouts to meet customer requirements.

Tested and approved

Projecta brand manager Jake Smith said the system received a very positive response at the 2026 Victorian Caravan and Camping Supershow from both caravan owners and manufacturers.

“We had the opportunity to demonstrate the technology on the Projecta stand at the Supershow and feedback from showgoers and exhibitors was extremely positive,” Jake said.

“Prospective end user customers acknowledged the notable benefits of the Projecta system in terms of its ease of use, and the ability to efficiently handle a wide range of power management needs.

“OE customers also appreciated the easy installation process which leads to a more efficient and time-saving fitment for them.”

Jake added that the system has been extensively tested across Australia, including in real-world conditions on caravans from a leading local manufacturer.

“Along with our own internal laboratory and real-world testing, units have been operating around Australia in the caravans of a leading Australian manufacturer since mid-2025, without issue while receiving strong endorsement from owners,” he said.

“We’re confident that the new Project 48V power management system sets a new benchmark for the industry.”

What’s in the kit

The core kit includes the 4kW inverter/charger (which features a 70A AC charger, bi-directional 30A DC-DC and 30A MPPT solar charging), the customisable 18-channel module (16 switchable circuits and two high-output circuits) plus all the components and cabling needed to connect the module to the inverter.

It can be paired with one or more 48V 105Ah LiFePO4 chassis-mounted batteries — Projecta recommends its rugged 48V 105Ah lithium batteries (equivalent to 12V 420Ah), which are rated to IP67 and IP69K and equipped with protections against overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, short circuit and extreme temperatures.

With this setup, caravan owners can easily monitor and manage all aspects of their power system, whether running appliances at a campsite, topping up with mains power, or relying on solar energy. The touchscreen interface or app provides full control, real-time monitoring, and detailed usage insights.

Off-grid made easier

In practice, the Projecta 48V system is designed to make life off-grid simpler and more convenient. Higher efficiency, faster charging and the ability to run multiple appliances at once means travellers can enjoy a more comfortable caravan experience without constantly juggling power. Whether you’re heading off for the weekend or spending a couple of weeks in the outback, the system keeps the essentials running reliably.

For anyone who wants to upgrade their caravan or motorhome’s power setup, the new Projecta 48V system offers flexibility, efficiency and easy control — all in a package ready to handle the demands of contemporary travel.
