Struggling to level your caravan on uneven ground? The TRED GT Levelling Pack makes it easy. Check out what we thought of it on a recent review.
A good night’s sleep is everyone’s dream. You can spend as much as you like on a good bed, mattress toppers, silk sheets and an emu down pillow, but if the caravan isn’t level, there aren’t enough sheep in New Zealand to count before dawn breaks through the block-out curtains.
To get the van level, I have tried rocks (too many snakes), blocks of wood (not enough variation) and some levelling blocks that are either too steep or too long to fit between tandem wheels. So, when TRED Outdoors asked us to take the TRED GT Levelling Pack away on our recent trip, it was worth giving it a go.
TRED GT Levelling Pack
We have used various TRED products over the last couple of years, and the quality and superior strength impressed me. A set of their traction boards got a mate out of trouble in the sand on Mulgumpin (Moreton Island), and we are running one of their compact storage boxes on the roof of our LandCruiser 200 Series. I like that they have a good range of 4WD equipment and that these caravan ramps are made in Australia at Crestmead in Queensland from rigid automotive-grade polypropylene material that is moulded into the honeycomb design shape with drainage holes.
How the TRED GT Levelling ramps work
The ramps are 249mm (9.8in) wide, which will comfortably accommodate most offroad tyres. With a single gradient height of 115mm (4.5in), you get a practical lift of around 110mm (4.5in) and a weight limit of 5000kg. If needed, you could stack the anti-sink plates for an extra 15mm of lift, but I found you need to pack them underneath the ramps so that they don’t slip on the top surface.
I found the ramps easy to use. At 420mm (16.5in) long, the rear ramp fitted between the tandem tyres on our Trakmaster van, and the single gradient ramp made it straightforward for Heather to drive slowly to the desired height, where I slid the chocks into place. The clever design means the chocks have multiple height positions and slide sideways on the ramps to lock in so the van can’t roll back. This system worked well the many times we have used it, and the process was safe and reassuring.
The TRED GT Levelling Pack stacks together for storage which I liked
I found the chocks easy to slide in and remove when ready to pack up. They have slots for a small strap for added safety when working around a moving caravan. All up, the pack weighs around 5kg.
I used the anti-sink plates under the caravan jacks a couple of times on soft sand and they worked as they should and seemed sturdy enough to last the distance. They should also be handy as plates under jacks for the LandCruiser or as stabilisers for our picnic table on sand, so they will be handy to have on board.
Where you can buy the TRED GT Levelling ramps
The TRED GT Levelling Pack is available from A247 for $139.95 (use the code ADVENTURES24 for 10 per cent off your total order). Single-axle sets are also available. I know there are cheaper ramps around because I have tried them. From what I have seen so far, the unique TRED-link design of the TRED system is stronger and more practical, and I like the neat way it locks together and packs away into a compact space.
