Pet-friendly parks, cafes and stays await in the new Travelling with Pets on Australia’s East Coast — the perfect companion for pet-loving caravanners.

Travelling with furry and feathered friends is a much-loved pastime — particularly for freelance writer and devoted pet owner Carla Francis, who has just released the seventh edition of her popular guidebook Travelling with Pets on Australia’s East Coast. Knowing many Aussie caravanners love to hit the road with their pets along for the ride, we were quick to get our hands on a copy to see what’s new.

A go-to-guide for pet-friendly stays

It’s been three years since the last edition of Travelling with Pets on Australia’s East Coast, and the seventh edition hit shelves last month with some updated listings and fresh recommendations.

Carla can’t stand leaving her dog behind when she travels, which is what prompted her to write the first edition of Travelling with Pets in 2012. Featuring everything from cat cabins to cute cockatiel-friendly caravan parks in locations as far north as Queensland’s Port Douglas right down to Port Fairy in Victoria, Carla leaves no stone unturned in her quest to provide a definite guide to pet friendly accommodation.

What’s inside Travelling with Pets on Australia’s East Coast

In a handy, easy-to-use format, the book contains thousands of independently researched listings, arranged state by state. Each entry outlines what types of pets are welcome, the price range, the style of accommodation offered (tents, caravans, cabins, chalets and so on) and nearby points of interest.

Plus, it’s a paperback and 22cm high by 15cm wide, meaning it’s a handy coffee table or road trip companion.

For example, if you’re visiting the snow this winter, the Pender Lea Chalets adjoining the Kosciuszko National Park in the NSW Snowy Mountains welcomes pets to stay inside (although owners are liable for any damage caused). New pet enclosures have been built so pets can be left unattended.

New for this edition

The seventh edition of Travelling with Pets on Australia’s East Coast now includes extra information about dog-friendly beaches, parks, cafes, pubs and wineries and other doggie day-out ideas.

There’s also a bonus chapter highlighting pet friendly locations along inland routes between Melbourne and Brisbane or Melbourne and Sydney — handy if you’re not travelling directly up and down the east coast.
