The 2024 Australia's Top Tourism Town Awards were held in September, and this year Tasmania’s lovely town of Devonport took home the gold award and was named ‘Australia’s Top Tourism Town’ (towns with populations over 5000 people) — a fantastic achievement for this Apple Isle town.

Devonport is well-known for being the Tassie port for the Spirit of Tasmania and is a unique coastal gem tucked between the ocean and fertile agricultural land that forms part of Tasmania’s famous food bowl, producing everything from fruit and veggies through to honey, herbs, meat and more, making it the ideal launchpad to explore this corner of the Tasmania. There’s plenty to check out in the town itself, including some new developments such as the Tiagarra Cultural Centre, the Bass Strait Maritime Centre and the new Sky to Sea Light Show. The Paranaple Convention Centre is another noted feature, bringing many business events to the region.

Following Devonport, Victoria’s town of Bendigo took home the silver award for ‘Australia’s Top Tourism Towns’, and Roma, Qld, was awarded the bronze medal.

Devonport wasn’t the only Tassie town that was awarded though. Stanley, a small town on the north-west coast was awarded the silver medal for ‘Australia’s Tiny Top Tourism Town’ (towns with populations under 1500 people), meaning there was twice the celebration for the Tassie crew who attended the annual awards ceremony held at Parliament House in Canberra, ACT. Huskisson on the NSW south coast got the gold in the tiny town category, and Gundaroo in the ACT received bronze.

Western Australia's beautiful coastal town of Exmouth took home gold in the 'Small Tourism Town' category, Victoria's Daylesford got silver, and Richmond — another fantastic Tassie town — received the bronze award.
