Tasmanian travellers have new caravan options on their doorstep, with Market Direct Group (MDG) partnering with long-running local dealership Coastal Caravans in Somerset, Tas.

The move means Tasmanians can now buy models from MDC Campers & Caravans and Gold Class Caravans locally — skipping the hassle and cost of heading to the mainland.

Coastal Caravans joins national MDG network

Coastal Caravans (formerly Austin’s Caravans) has been family-owned and operated Tassie business since 1988 and is well known for its trusted service and community focus. Alongside sales, finance and insurance, it runs the neighbouring Coastal RV Hub for servicing and repairs, and has been recognised at the Business NorthWest Excellence Awards for its customer care and service.

Becoming an official MDG dealer means Coastal Caravans can now offer a wider mix of high-quality, RVMAP-accredited caravans and campers, all backed by MDG’s 20-plus years in the Australian RV scene.

More options for Tasmanian caravan buyers

MDC Campers & Caravans has sold more than 40,000 units across the country over two decades and has built a reputation for tough, affordable offroad campers and caravans targeted at Aussies who love adventure — from first-time caravanners through to experienced offroaders.

MDG’s new premium brand offering, Gold Class Caravans, takes things up a notch with a range of fully equipped vans where every feature comes standard, from the offroad-ready Adventure Class to the plush, Luxe Class designed for comfortable long-haul travel.

By adding both brands, Coastal Caravans can now offer everything from rugged budget-friendly campers to top-end luxury tourers, with local support and servicing.

MDG–Coastal launch at Launceston show

The partnership made its public debut at the Tasmanian Outdoor Life and Caravan Show at the Launceston Silverdome from 12–14 September 2025, giving local buyers their first look at the MDC and Gold Class lineups under the new banner.

Lloyd Waldron, national dealer development manager at MDG, said:

“This partnership marks a significant step in our national rollout of Gold Class Caravans and the Market Direct Group at large. Coastal’s strong performance and customer-first approach align perfectly with our values and long-term growth strategy. Together, we’re creating a stronger presence in Tasmania and opening up exciting new opportunities for both Gold Class and MDC.”

Trent Austin, managing director of Coastal Caravans, commented:

“Since 1988, our family has built Coastal Caravans on service, trust and a commitment to Tasmanians. Partnering with Gold Class and MDC allows us to bring national brands and comparable pricing to the state — so Tasmanians no longer need to travel to the mainland. It’s about keeping it local, while giving our customers more choice and better value.”
