Product Feature: The Towing Glovebox Guide
The Towing Glovebox Guide, by Robert Pepper
Towing safely involves more than hitching up and heading off. The Towing Glovebox Guide is a handy reference for learning the basics and checking your understanding before a trip.
Like its companion book, the Glovebox Guide to 4WD, it’s compact and lightweight. The spiral binding is practical: the book opens flat, you can fold it back on itself, and it’s easy to hold with one hand while reading. The paper feels good, and the pages are filled with tables, illustrations and diagrams that make the information clear and easy to take in.
The guide explains towing fundamentals well, including weight limits and terms such as tare weight and kerb weight. It also covers setup, loading and driving techniques, with checklists to help reinforce key points. It’s an approachable way for beginners to build their knowledge and for more experienced towers to revisit the essentials.
The Best Section - By Far
One section I particularly enjoyed was Buying and setting up. It encourages you to think beyond features such as leather seats and climate control when choosing a tow vehicle, and consider what will suit your towing needs and setup.
I also appreciated the section on towing with electric vehicles. As interest grows in electrified tow vehicles, including plug-in hybrids such as the BYD Shark 6 and JAC Hunter, it’s useful to see the topic included.
A couple of practical notes: although the cover feels solid, I wouldn’t treat the book as weather-resistant. I’d keep it somewhere protected in the glovebox, ideally inside a sleeve or wallet. And while the guide discusses regulations, requirements can vary between states and change over time. The book was published in 2025, so check current rules and make sure they still suit your vehicle and trailer setup.
My Verdict
This is a great guide for beginners and a useful refresher for anyone who already tows. Just because you’ve towed before doesn’t mean there’s nothing left to learn, and people seem to oversee some of the key safety rules when towing Read the guide, stay alert to changes in regulations, and regularly check that your own setup is right for the job.
