Based in Canberra, Mont Adventure Equipment was founded by Andrew Montgomery in 1981 after Andrew made his own sleeping bags, down jackets and tents after being disappointed with the options available locally.

Trying out the Mont Lifestyle Vented Shirt
The Lifestyle Vented Shirt is part of Mont’s clothing range and comes in unisex, men’s and women’s styles. Designed for hiking and other outdoor activities, it’s a lightweight, breathable shirt that repels mosquitoes and other insects thanks to Mont’s exclusive Bug Off™ treatment, which embeds a natural plant extract into the fabric. The company claims the insect-repelling effect remains effective for 20–50 washes if washed correctly.
The long-sleeve shirt is made from Supplex nylon, which is soft to the touch like cotton but offers the benefit of durability, UV stability and holds its colour well. It’s also a fast-drying, wicking, highly breathable fabric and resistant to shrinking and creasing, so it should stay serviceable for years.
One of the other great features of the shirt is its large vents on the back of the shirt that aid air circulation and cross ventilation (ideal for Aussie summers or strenuous outdoor activities).
The shirt comes in a variety of colours, such as stone, sage, marlin, white and hi-vis, depending on the style, and unisex sizes range from 3XS to 3XL. It’s designed to wear over a base layer, and the sizes are a generous fit.
I recently tried the shirt, and it immediately felt comfortable and practical. Twin chest pockets have Velcro tabs and a zippered section to keep contents secure. While the look has an outdoorsy hiking-and-fishing vibe, I found myself wearing it every day, thanks to its lightweight, gentle feel.
