Jayco owners National Getaway 2024 recap

Jayco Journey, Jayco Silverline and Jayco All Terrain owners from all over the country came together between 9–13 May at Norah Head Holiday Park on the NSW north coast for the biennial National Getaway 2024. Owners from all states and the ACT made an appearance, with only the NT missing a representative.

This was the third National Getaway to be held by these three Facebook groups — the Jayco Journey Owners Australia, the Jayco Silverline Owners Australia and the Jayco All Terrain Owners Australia — and the event attracted 123 caravans with 248 adults and children attending.

As each caravan arrived, they were provided with a welcome bag supplied by Jayco Corporation which contained such items as stubby holders, mugs, sunglasses, a personal fan and various Jayco brochures. Another bag contained sightseeing pamphlets a stubby holder supplied by REDARC Electronics, a cooling fan, National Getaway 2024 stickers, sponsor brochures and many discount vouchers. One hundred and fifty pre-paid polos and t-shirts worth a total of $6000 and printed with National Getaway 2024 were also picked up by attendees.

Each day of the event there were multiple activities that, while not compulsory, were extremely well-attended and features some fabulous prizes that had been donated by various manufacturers and suppliers within the caravan industry. The National Getaway 2024 major sponsors were: Jayco Corporation, Jayco Newcastle, BOS 370, REDARC Electronics, Safety Dave, RV Parts Express, Coast to Coast RV, Spotto Books and Leader Pet Supplies.

Jayco Newcastle brought down a brand-new Jayco Journey caravan for attendees to inspect and provided a salesperson on site for the day with a number of people showing an interest in updating their caravans. REDARC Electronics sent along its local rep with his display vehicle which was closely examined by many of the DIYer’s with many questions being asked and answered.

Let the festivities commence

Over half of the attendees arrived early and on Thursday night there was a welcome dinner/sausage sizzle provided by Norah Head Holiday Park for the attendees, which went down very well. The National Getaway 2024 program was explained, registrations for barefoot bowls were taken and application forms for the Best Mod Competition were distributed to those interested in entering.

Day two saw the beginning of activities for the getaway with crafts, golf at Toukley Golf Club, barefoot bowls at Norah Head Bowling and Sports Club, and Spotto Books came and set up a stall which was well attended. And then at 3pm there was the all-important Happy Hour at the camp kitchen. Entertainment for Friday night was provided by Jayco Corporation and was the musical duo Ben and Vee. A raffle was also run with proceeds going to Camp Quality and the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) with first prize a BOS Jockey Wheel and second prize a high back chair and third prize an IKEA cutting board.

Day three saw round one of the Skip-Bo Competition held in the camp kitchen area, which was lucky as this was the only wet day of the getaway. The Best Dog Competition was also judged at the camp kitchen for the best pooch and the nightly entertainment was by country music singer John Wilson. Another raffle was also run with proceeds going to Camp Quality and the RFDS with first prize a REDARC BCDC1225D battery charger kit and second prize a BOS Jockey Wheel. Winners of the Best Mod Competition which had been judged by the committee were announced with first prize (BOS 370 Jockey Unit) and second prize (Safety Dave first aid kit) drawn from the four equal first points scores.

Day four was Mother’s Day with a large contingent heading down to the Hawkesbury River for a lunchtime river cruise and by all accounts it was a cracker of a day with a lot of people catching the train down and back. Sunday afternoon saw round two of the Skip-Bo Competition held. At 5pm a group photo was taken of the getaway group then from 6pm a Trivia Contest was conducted with 16 teams of nearly 200 people in total playing trivia, the Getaway lucky site/door prize of a 74L Brass Monkey portable fridge/freezer supplied by Jayco Newcastle awarded and the final raffle run with proceeds going to Camp Quality and the RFDS with first prize a BOS Jockey Wheel, second prize a High Back Chair and third prize a dish strainer for the sink.

Final proceeds from the raffles and so on were donated equally to Camp Quality (Cancer for Kids) and RFDS and totalled $3566. Many thanks go to BOS 370, REDARC Electronics and Safety Dave for their generous support of the event. A tremendous effort and we’re grateful for everyone who contributed.

All in all, there were a lot of very happy people by the end of the getaway, who in addition to the event activities were able to visit the NSW central coast, Newcastle, Hunter Valley and Port Stephens, and all agreed it was a fantastic event. All eyes are now looking forward two years’ time to the 2026 National Getaway.
