For those looking to experience the heart of this stunning country, whether it’s on a laid-back coastal road trip, an off-grid journey or a more adventurous offroad trek, a reliable and well-designed caravan is essential. Enter SWAG Off-Road Campers, a brand born from a passion for outdoor exploration and a commitment to quality that meets the needs of Aussie travellers.
Founded in 2008 by Kerry Stacey and based in Queensland, SWAG Off-Road Campers is a family-owned and operated manufacturer focused on crafting high-quality swags and tents. Kerry’s vision was simple: to create products that would enable people to experience Australia’s natural beauty without sacrificing comfort.
As Australia’s RV and camper trailer market evolved, particularly with the influx of imported products in the mid-2010s, SWAG shifted focus and branched out into a full range of premium caravans, pop-tops and hybrid camper trailers. Kerry and the team had recognised that quality control was a major gap in the industry and made it their mission to ensure the highest standards for critical components, which in turn led to the redesign of all SWAG models and a move towards locally controlled manufacturing processes, combining Australian design and sourcing for components and accessories.
This decision laid the foundation for SWAG’s evolution, with the company now known for its innovative hybrid campers and caravans that seamlessly blend modern design with offroad durability.

Introducing the new Gen 8 series
Looking ahead, SWAG continues to push the envelope with its exciting new releases. One highly anticipated model is the upcoming Gen 8 series of caravans, set to launch in mid-2025.
“It’s been a while in the making, but we’ve noticed that more and more hybrid manufacturers are moving away from the traditional idea of hybrid living by adding large internal up fridges, ovens, microwaves and washing machines,” said Kerry Stacey.
SWAG’s newest model, the SCT13 Adventure model
The new Gen 8 will stay true to the essence of simple, functional hybrid living, but with a few exciting upgrades. With more storage space, a new kitchen layout and improved Victron battery management systems, the Gen 8 aims to provide an even more practical, lightweight experience for a wide range of travellers — from first-time campers to seasoned explorers — all with the high quality and durability SWAG is known for.
“We’re also staying true to our commitment to supporting local, continuing to use trusted Australian brands and products in our fit-outs,” said Kerry. “And as always, we aim to keep our prices accessible for Aussie families who want to explore the great outdoors.”
Crafted for Aussie explorers
Every SWAG model is built to withstand Australia’s harsh environments, from the scorching heat of the outback to the unpredictable terrain of remote tracks like the iconic Gibb River Road.
The design process happens in-house, and every hybrid and caravan undergoes detailed 3D CAD modelling before production is approved, models which are then sent to an independent Australian testing facility for certification. After the model is approved, the production process takes place at SWAG’s manufacturing partner in China.
Built to withstand Australia’s harsh conditions
Once built, the chassis and body are sent back to SWAG’s factory on the Sunshine Coast where the team completes the final assembly and fit out with all the locally sourced critical components such as electrics, gas system and battery installation.
The SWAG models are now in their eighth generation, offering a single-piece galvanised chassis, fully insulated composite walls, a honeycomb floor and a lightweight, narrow-bodied design that is perfect for reaching those hard to reach but worth the effort destinations.
A versatile lineup
SWAG Off-Road Campers understands that Australian travellers are as diverse as the landscapes they explore. Whether you’re a couple seeking a compact getaway, a family looking for a space to bring the kids (and the dog!) or an offroad enthusiast craving rugged exploration, there’s a SWAG model designed to meet your needs.
For couples after a compact option, the SCT13 hybrid pop-top offers the perfect balance of comfort and offroad capability. This hybrid may be small, but it’s fully equipped with a spacious king bed, large stainless-steel external kitchen, ample storage, 400W of solar panels and an ensuite — equally ideal for short getaways or extended road trips. And if a pop-top isn’t your style, there is a hard-top version of the SCT13 available as well.
Enjoy the comforts of home while exploring Australia’s remote areas
The SWAG team is particularly proud of its newest 13ft Adventure model. This van has quickly become a favourite in the SWAG lineup and features a Bushwakka 270 awning which is easy to set up and offers plenty of shade coverage to extend your outdoor living area, plus upgraded a Tough Dog 4WD Suspension system and a Victron battery system.
The SCT16 and SCT17 models are perfect for couples who want a little more space but still want to spend some time off-grid. Both feature full ensuites with separate toilet and shower, reverse-cycle air conditioning and offroad resilience that allows you to tackle the roughest terrains. The SCT16 is the narrower of the two and comes in both pop-top and hard-top versions. We were fortunate enough to check out the Gen 6 SCT16 pop-top at Australia’s Best Hybrids 2024 and the judges were impressed by not only its compact interior layout but also its light weight, which gave it a higher payload and comparatively low ATM (2800kg) suitable for lower-rated tow vehicles.
The SCT16 is one of SWAG’s most popular models
Families are not left out of the equation. SWAG’s 4B and 5B models are designed with kids (and pets!) in mind, offering comfortable bunk beds and plenty of room for the whole family. Despite their size, these models are lightweight and narrow-bodied, making them easier to tow and perfect for reaching those remote camping spots that larger caravans simply can’t access.
For those who crave flexibility, SWAG offers a range of models that are suited for everything from weekend trips to extended off-grid journeys and everything in between. The brand’s split ensuite models are especially popular for those seeking more privacy and comfort on longer trips.
These features, along with SWAG’s traditional construction methods and Aussie testing, make its hybrids and caravans a favourite among many outdoor adventurers.
There’s a model to suit every style of traveller
The SWAG community
SWAG is dedicated to building its community and has cultivated a dedicated following of outdoor enthusiasts who regularly share their adventures on social media platforms and within exclusive community groups. The team at SWAG stays actively engaged with this community, gathering feedback and offering support to ensure that every customer has a seamless experience with their product. In fact, the brand’s relationship with its customers has led to exciting partnerships, such as becoming an authorised installer of Bushwakka awnings — something of which the team is particularly proud.
As the company continues to grow, it remains deeply committed to maintaining the same level of personal care and attention to detail that has made it a trusted name in the Australian camping and caravan market. From warranty support to customer service, SWAG ensures that every camper is ready for whatever adventures lie ahead.
