2015 BAV: Concept Innovation 630RCLX-B Oz Pack

Concept Caravans has taken the Innovation 620/630 Series to another dimension with the 630RCLX-B Oz Pack. It’s not only the advancements in build and finish quality, but also the massive upgrades that give this classy on-road tourer a definitive seal of approval.

For starters, the standard inclusion of Cruisemaster CRS 2900 independent suspension in conjunction with genuine leather upholstery are just precursors to why this Innovation stuns at just under $70,000.

And then there’s the piece de resistance – the Oz Pack – which includes colour stripes to match, colour-coded wheels, 550mm checkerplate, A-frame extension, toolbox, exterior shower and a 135W solar panel.

LAYOUT & DESIGN

It’s difficult not to be impressed with the van’s silver aluminium body, Mobicool Dometic double-glazed windows with integrated blinds and flyscreens, and aerodynamic body shape, designed with wind resistance and fuel economy in mind. The silver colour certainly makes it stand-out from the crowd and Concept utilises a high-strength, durable double-ribbed aluminium cladding.

The windows push out and are sealed well to the outside as the framework covers the external cladding substantially, unlike recessed windows that may be prone to leak.

The modern interior decor is a highlight – even to such finer details as a contoured bedspread. The well-ventilated front bedroom is equipped with an island bed, a TV on a swivel arm, abundant cupboards and lighting, plus lift-up under-bed storage.

The French-made, high-wear vinyl floating flooring and high gloss Concept ‘Power Management Cabinetry’ are impressive.

I was also a fan of the large roof hatch fitted to the living room with blind and flyscreen and the high (6ft 6in) interior ceiling height, which gives the van a feeling of space throughout.

KITCHEN

The mid-nearside kitchen boasts a combo four-burner cooktop, which has a laminated lid fitted for extra bench space, and a rangehood with LED lighting above. The galley contains a cutlery tray fitted to a kitchen drawer and Easy Glide metal-sided drawers.

There is plenty of storage in the kitchen including overhead lockers above the stove and sink, a lift-out cupboard above the built-in microwave, and a compartment underneath the sink.

Opposite the kitchen, the four-seater lounge comprises a panoramic window, plenty of lighting and powerpoints, a centrally located overhead hatch, and strong footrests (strong enough to stand on!).

BATHROOM

The spacious rear ensuite is very comfortable, with a full-height, fully-enclosed shower, china bowl vanity with LED lighting above, and a towel rail, ring, and toilet roll holder fitted to a sliding door. There is also a full-height cabinet, top-loading washing machine, and extractor fans fitted over the toilet and shower.

THE BOTTOM LINE

The Innovation 630RCLX-B Oz Pack is a classy on-road tourer, which, with some minor modifications, particularly a grey water tank and more solar and battery wattage, could essentially become a home-away-from-home.

This thoughtfully upgraded caravan should have people sitting up and taking notice when it comes to luxury at a competitive price. The Oz Pack certainly packs a punch, and I believe it ‘cuts the mustard’ at just under $70K.
