'Soft' camping in Wollemi

Novice campers tempted by a weekend in the bush but lacking the know-how may be interested in the Wollemi Campers Package, which is offered by Wollemi Afloat in the Mudgee Region of NSW.

The “hassle-free camping escape” at Dunns Swamp in the Wollemi National Park includes all camping gear provided and set up on site, plus river cruises and water activities.

Aimed at families with kids, or couples seeking a quiet getaway, the two-night, all-inclusive package costs $440 (up to four people). This includes a tent, shelter, table, chairs, Esky with ice, drinking water and fishing gear, all set up before you arrive and packed away after you leave. You will also discover this world heritage-listed park with a daytime river cruise, unlimited canoe use and water toys for the weekend. There are hot showers too, and no mosquitoes or sandflies year-round, which should help pull a few more novice campers over the line.

Dunns Swamp consists of trapped water from Kandos Weir on the Cudgegong River and is located on the edge of the second-largest national park in NSW. Even though the ‘swamp’ is man-made, it’s a haven for many types (and vast numbers) of flora and fauna, and there are amazing sandstone formations known as pagodas. Wollemi Afloat has been operating cruises, tours and water activities here for almost 20 years.

The Mudgee Region is also a renowned food and wine area with 40 cellar doors and producers of honey, olive oil and farmhouse cheeses.
