Paramount supports Cystic Fibrosis Victoria
In successfully bidding for a new Paramount Classic caravan, Sandra and Keith Mchoul of Dandenong North, Vic, were also supporting Cystic Fibrosis Victoria.
Paramount donated the van to the Mill Park Criminal Investigation Unit, which auctioned it to the highest bidder on AM radio station 3AW in early December.
The Mill Park CIU began supporting Cystic Fibrosis Victoria almost 12 years ago with an annual fundraiser spearheaded by Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Kirkright with assistance from the rest of the CIU.
The inaugural fundraiser, in 1997, was a barbecue event that raised $1000. The 2008 fundraiser, though, raised a total of $48,000 and included a special auction night during which, among other donated items, a guitar signed by the Rolling Stones was auctioned off.
The auction of the Paramount Classic came at a convenient time for the Mchouls, whose previous van, a Golden Eagle, was damaged beyond repair in an incident in Barrow Creek, NT. Keith Mchoul won the auction with his bid of $26,500 for the 15ft 6in (internal) Classic with front kitchen, rear bedroom layout, which has a value of about $34,000.
“It’s an extremely good deal, and an extremely good van,” he said.
During the handover of the van, Detective Senior Sergeant Kirkright thanked Paramount for its support of Cystic Fibrosis Victoria.
The organisation provides support services across Vic for those living with cystic fibrosis. “We rely on donations, grants and fundraising for 80 per cent of our income,” Cystic Fibrosis Victoria chief executive officer Stephen Murby said. “Paramount Caravan’s donation has made the world of difference to us, coming as it did at such a critical time with the economy, and sets a benchmark in generous corporate giving to the plight of those living with cystic fibrosis.”
