GOLDSTREAM RV EXPANDS FAMILY RANGE WITH NEW 1760 E-W BUNK POP-TOP
Caravan World recently reviewed Goldstream's 1760 Bunk family van (CW551), but now Goldstream has launched a new prototype which is a variation on the same theme, but with more space for both adults and children.
The new 1760 E-W Bunk pop-top is due to make its public debut at this year’s Big Red Bash in Queensland, where hundreds of offroad and semi-offroad caravans and campers gather on the eastern edge of the Simpson Desert in early July.
When we reviewed the 1760 Bunk, we questioned the relatively compact size of its transverse front bed. While the 1760 E-W Bunk retains the same exterior body dimensions (5.38x2.36m), it has a significantly different interior layout that houses a rear door, rather than a forward one, and removes the combined shower/toilet ensuite.
While the E-W Bunk still has its caravan-queen-size bed across the front of the van, access to the forward side is made easier without having to contend with the front door.
Meanwhile, a novel triple bunk and adjacent cupboards spread themselves across the rear of the pop-top. The steps for the upper bunks are built into the right-hand side of the bunk stack with a removable side support for the top bed.
This layout should work for many adventurous families, as it retains the 1760’s good-sized kitchen and generous dinette with seating for four.
Admittedly, the bottom bunk is pretty close to the floor and there is no space above the top bunk until the top is popped open, but this shouldn’t matter for most. Goldstream also offers a two-bunk version and, if you want a full-height caravan, the layout also changes.
The single-axle 1760 E-W Bunk prototype, with its very manageable 1939kg Tare/2500kg ATM, is equipped with Goldstream’s optional new high-gloss furniture, an 80W solar panel, a hot water service with external shower and Dometic’s latest 190L fridge-freezer. Underneath, it sports Al-Ko’s new Enduro Outback trailing arm independent suspension, which is now a standard feature on all Goldstream Outback vans and pop-tops, making it a good family buy at $51,500 (ex-Vic).
