Aussie biofuel a reality

The availability of biodiesel in Vic is set to increase, with Biodiesel Producers Limited (BPL) receiving a $2m grant from the Victorian Government for a $4.3m biodiesel facility.

The facility will enable BPL to store and blend its locally produced biodiesel made from tallow (an abattoir waste product) at its plant in Barnawartha, south of the Murray River (pictured), north-east Vic.

Energy and Resources Minister Peter Batchelor said BPL’s Barnawartha plant was capable of producing 60m litres of biodiesel annually, directly supported 24 jobs and accounted for $45m of expenditure in regional Vic each year.
