Easy recipes for caravanners: Spicy recipes perfect for winter

Introduce these spicy recipes around the campfire to enjoy on a cold winter’s day.

Hot brekky beans

Total time: 14 minutes

Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cans baked beans
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp mild curry powder
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Method

Fry chopped onion in oil on a skillet or campfire oven, until soft and translucent.

Add the rest of the ingredients until heated through.

Serve with eggs and sourdough.

Spicy buffalo wings

Total time: 1 hour

Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup flour
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 20 chicken wings
  • Oil, for frying
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • ½ cup hot sauce
  • Cracked pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

Method

Mix together flour, paprika, cayenne pepper and salt in a bowl.

Put chicken wings in the bowl and toss in flour mix until evenly coated. 

Heat oil in a skillet over a hot fire. Fry chicken wings in batches for 10–15 minutes until brown.

While the wings are frying, in a saucepan, mix together melted butter, hot sauce, pepper, and garlic powder and stir over a medium heat.

Stir until well blended and set aside.

Place wings in a bowl, drizzle with sauce and serve with ranch dressing or mayo.

Chilli-choc tiramisu

Total time: 45 minutes

Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 250g mascarpone cheese
  • 250g crème fraîche
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 6 tbsp caster sugar
  • 1 cup strong black coffee
  • ½ cup Kahlúa
  • 12 Italian ladyfinger biscuits
  • Chilli chocolate drinking chocolate, for dusting

Method

Beat together mascarpone cheese, crème fraîche, vanilla essence and caster sugar in a bowl.

Mix together coffee and Kahlúa in a separate bowl or dish and soak each ladyfinger biscuit for a few minutes on each side.

Cover the bottom of a small baking dish with a layer of ladyfinger biscuits.

Add a layer of the mascarpone mixture then repeat with another layer of biscuits and mascarpone mixture.

Dust with chilli chocolate powder and refrigerate for 30 minutes if possible or serve immediately.
