2014 Video Review: Golf Savannah

The Golf Savannah is a tandem-axle rough-road pop-top with cutaway rear and independent suspension.

Being a pop-top, the Savannah should fit easily into most garages and carports, making storage a breeze. It has such good internal clearance that you don’t even need to pop the roof to make yourself at home. If you arrive late and can’t be bothered setting up camp before you turn in, just head for the bed and pop the roof in the morning.

TOWING

The Golf Savannah is towable by mid-range 4WDs and has a ball weight of 180kg.

EXTERNAL FEATURES

A major feature of the Golf Savannah is its nearside slide-out outdoor kitchen. This is more than just a barbecue, as it has a sink, two-burner cooktop and slide-out fridge.

The pop-top caravan has a Prostor awning which can extend or retract to any size and can be lifted easily by one person.

The Savannah rides on twin coil independent suspension so it can take a real licking, and the black checkerplate with tungsten spray job give it a really purposeful look.

It has a strong-looking bumper with twin jerry cans and even comes with fishing rod (or poles) holder.

On the offside, there’s an external shower with flexible hose, handy for beach camping.

INTERNAL LAYOUT

The rear kitchen, easily accessible via the rear entry door, has a Swift four-burner combo cooktop and grill, Dometic sink, grill, CD/mP3/USB player, microwave, fridge — and plenty of storage.

There’s a combo toilet and shower on offside and an L-shaped dinette on the nearside.

At the front is a double island bed, with plenty of storage and wardrobes on both sides.

THE VERDICT

Tim and Brooke from DDU gave the Golf Savannah a ‘double thumbs up’. “It’s a ripper,” said Tim.
