TRUE OFFROAD CARAVAN
‘Offroad’ is a much-abused word in the Australian RV industry but one caravan which really walks the walks and is a true offroad van is the Billabong Tuff Trakka – it’s one of a select few which really is designed to take you off the bitumen.
Underneath the chassis is where you really notice the diff between a true offroad van and a pretend one – it has large wheels and tyres, tough Control Rider coil spring independent suspension, heaps of under-body protection, stone protection for the gas system, a massive A-frame designed for hard work and two spare wheels on the bumper.
STORAGE
The Tuff Trakka has immense external storage, including two front boots. The checkerplate front storage box will hold your hard and heavy stuff, while the traditional front boot holds the twin batteries and electronics with room to spare.
INTERIOR LAYOUT
Inside, the Tuff Trakka has the de rigeur décor of a stark white interior with black upholstery and splashes. It has a compact but usable galley with a 184L Dometic fridge, deep home-style kitchen sink, good bench space, sturdy cover for cooker, glass splashback and a window over the kitchen. All cupboards and lockers have locks so you can see at a glance whether they’re closed and locked properly before you hit the road.
The dinette has a tri-fold table, making it ideal for a snack or dinner for four.
The bathroom is also quite compact but workable, bicle.
