COTY Reviews: Vivid Caravans Voyager 20’

Bon Voyage

A magical thing happened at COTY this year: a fully offroad capable couples van backed by a trusted Aussie brand that doesn’t hit the six-figure mark.

An Australian designed and made fully offroad couples van for under $100,000 — did we find a unicorn at Caravan of the Year 2026? We think we did in the Vivid Caravans Voyager 20’, which won the Best Van Under $100,000 category.

Vivid Caravans is a new brand designed and built by the reputable Urban Caravans and has been around for four years now. Urban is renowned for its tough offroaders and it has brought that tech and features into the Voyager at an affordable price point for couples who might be downsizing from a family van or upsizing from a camper trailer to get a bit more luxury and comfort.

The Vivid Voyager 20’ is becoming one of its best sellers. Sales were up at one of the recent shows, so customers are proving that they like the value for money that this caravan offers at just under $96,000.

Build quality

Designed and engineered by Urban, the Vivid Voyager 20’ boasts a similar build to its sister van the Platinum RV Rogue 20’6 — a composite construction that is strong, durable and lightweight. This van has an ATM of 3500kg, so will be in the realm of many 4x4 dual-cab utes or SUVs in terms of towability.

It starts with a DuraGal 150mm x 50mm steel chassis. Like the Platinum, a rot-free composite frame provides rigidity. The walls are a 25mm poly/fibreglass sheet, filled with insulation and clad with PROBOND aluminium on the outside and a fibreglass panel on the inside. The roof is fibreglass supported by a TIG-welded aluminium frame. The honeycomb floor is 8mm thick, and there’s a checkerplate for protection on the outside.

Suspension is the 3.7T TUFFRIDE independent with 16in wheels, mud terrain tyres and 12in electric brakes. There’s a spare wheel on the bumper bar and Cruisemaster DO35 hitch.

Liveability and Ease of use

The layout of the Voyager 20’ is a tried-and-true winner that is very popular with couples. The rear door offers privacy from the sleeping area and easy access to the fridge and bathroom without walking through the van. Just inside the entry door is a spacious built-in four-door pantry with ample, deep shelving for food and appliances.

The mid nearside kitchen is very generous .in size, Even with the traditional gas/electric hotplates and stainless-steel sink with draining board, there’s at least half a metre of timber-look laminate bench space available for preparation or serving. The cupboards and cabinets in our review van were a matte white with black latches, creating an interior style that looked very modern and minimalist. The metal drawers have soft closing catches, which is a nice touch.

Opposite the kitchen is a generous club lounge with a large window to let in natural light and reading lights with USB and USB-C ports. Up front is the queen-sized bed with overhead cupboards, wardrobes, and cubbies on either side, as well as a little side table, beneath which are a drawer and another cupboard. Sirocco fans do not come as standard with the Voyager 20’, but we were told they are often thrown in during negotiations.

Other liveability features include a Gree air-conditioner, diesel heating, NCE flatbed microwave, Thetford 224L compressor fridge, and Sphere 3.3kg top-loader washing machine —all recognised and trusted brands in the industry.

Innovation

The innovation in the Vivid Voyager 20’ is the van itself — a full offroad 20ft (6.1m) couple's van for under $100,000. And it’s the reason it was the winner in the Best Van Under $100,000 category in this year’s event.

Yes, $95,990 is still a lot of money, but the Voyager 20’ stacks up very capably against much pricier vans and you get a lot of bang for your buck.

It has a quality build, looks the part, comes with a lifetime rot-free warranty on the frame, a popular layout, is light to tow, and has everything you’ll need for a short trip away or a lap around Australia.

One innovative feature that I did like about the Voyager 20’ was the provision for a CPAP machine in each beside cupboard — a hidden compartment if you like — with access to 240V and 12V power points. This is not something we’ve generally seen in caravans, but a few manufacturers are now considering it as they strive to meet their customers' needs.

Value for money

The demand for an affordable full offroad Australian-built caravan is immense and the Urban Caravans Group has met that market with this recently released brand. The Vivid range introduces a different construction method with its PolyTech frame wedded to a TIG-welded roof structure and a honeycomb floor. Allaying fears about the unusual build is a lifetime warranty against water damage to the PolyTech.

Caravan costs have ballooned over the last few years, and offroad vans are reaching unaffordable levels for many buyers. Coming in at $95,990, the Voyager 20’ should be seen as great value for money, backed by Urban’s experience and market strength.

Coupled with a roomy interior, a club longe (which is uncommon at this end of the market), and sensible off-grid capability, the Voyager 20’ makes a tempting package, and it swayed the judges to award it Best Van Under $100,000.

Towability

Tare weight is 2720kg, typical of most contemporary 20ft vans, and it rides on TUFFRIDE coil-sprung trailing-arm suspension rated to 3.7T. Brakes are 12in electric drums. We had the opportunity to use both a late-model Nissan Navara and a Ford Ranger Super Duty, and the Voyager 20’ behaved well behind both.

Our run with the 2.4L twin-turbo Nissan included the winding, steep Murchison Gap, and the van followed with no wandering roll or banging. The brakes were progressive and performed well on the descent.

Hooked to the Super Duty, the Voyager 20’ was equally fuss-free at speed on country B-roads around Strath Creek.

The maximum loaded weight is 3500kg, so it’s towable by most mid-range 4WD vehicles.

Suitability for intended use

Even as vans increase in size and complexity, a 19ft (5.8m) van is still the most popular. Buyers of 20ft caravans expect that bit more and are happy to trade a bit of extra towing weight for added room and amenities. The Vivid team has brought a couple's van to the party featuring a club lounge, and it is going to be a winner in this segment because it adds a relaxing space and an upmarket impact.

Long-term travellers have around 780kg of payload to play with, and that’s enough for all the gear we seem to collect, and storage space is abundant.

The layout is the popular rear entry design that still allows privacy for the boudoir. A mid-level off-grid power supply includes a 3000W inverter and provides enough power for short runs of the air conditioner, while a diesel heater warms the van in winter. I like the sensible-sized ensuite with its roomy shower and space to dry off. Some might prefer a separating toilet over the Thetford cassette, but Thetford has an easy composting upgrade that fits straight in.

Built high on a 150x 50mm chassis and with a capable suspension and well-engineered construction, the van has the goods to get off the beaten track and out on the not-so-terrific Highway One for a lap of the country.

Customer Care

Customer care is an area where the Vivid Voyager 20’ really stands out, particularly when you consider its position in the market. With a five-year factory warranty backed by the Urban Group, there’s a strong level of confidence built into the ownership experience from the outset. That backing matters — Urban has a well-established reputation for both build quality and ongoing support, and it shows in how the warranty is structured.

There’s a clear expectation around how the van is used and maintained. Follow the prescribed maintenance schedule, have it signed off by an authorised repairer and treat the van with the respect a full offroad product demands, and you’re covered. Step outside of that, and like much of the category, responsibility shifts back to the owner.

Beyond the headline warranty, there’s also a lifetime rot-free frame guarantee, which is a significant inclusion at this price point. Appliances are covered separately, typically with a minimum two-year OEM warranty, which is standard practice.

For a sub-$100,000, fully offroad capable caravan, this is a genuinely strong customer care offering — and one of the better examples in the field.

Self-sufficiency

The Voyager 20’s self-sufficiency setup is best understood in practical terms. The twin 200Ah Baintech lithium batteries equate to around 4.8kWh nominal, or roughly 4kWh usable, backed by a 3000W inverter. That’s enough to comfortably run the essentials and even power the air conditioner for short periods — realistically, around three to four hours — but it’s not a system designed for long-term, set-and-forget off-grid living.

Solar sits at 500W as standard, with an option to increase to 750W, and that upgrade is worth considering. At standard output, you’re looking at roughly 2–3kWh of recovery on a good day, which keeps things ticking over but doesn’t leave a lot of margin if you’re running higher-draw appliances regularly.

Water capacity comes in at 200L across two freshwater tanks, plus a 95L greywater tank, which, in real terms, gives a couple around three to four days comfortably off-grid. You can stretch that with careful use, but this isn’t a van built for extended remote stays.

The cassette toilet reinforces that. It’s simple and effective, but it does mean planning around dump points or carrying additional cassettes if you’re staying out longer.

Overall, it’s a well-judged system for touring — not extreme, but exactly as capable as it needs to be at this price point.

X-factor

The Voyager 20’s X-factor is simple — the price, and what you get for it. At $95,990, it took out the Best Van Under $100,000 title, and it’s easy to see why. On paper, you look at the specs — proper offroad suspension, a strong chassis, genuine offroad warranty — and you’re left asking how it lands at that number.

Spend a bit more time with it, and the picture becomes clearer. Some of the costs have been managed through more value-driven appliance choices, but the fundamentals haven’t been compromised. It still delivers where it matters, and that’s what makes it so compelling.

This is the kind of van that will generate conversation. Around the park, people will see it, assume a much higher price, and then stop when they hear the number. Then they’ll notice the Urban Group connection — and that’s where it really lands. A brand with a strong reputation delivering a proper offroad caravan at this price point is genuinely impressive.

It’s not about flash — it’s about delivering more than expected, and that’s exactly what the Vivid Voyager 20' does.
